After Delhi and Rajasthan, it's Maharashtra's turn to ban mobile phones in schools.
State Minister for School Education Prof Vasant Purke on Thursday said the government will impose a ban on cell phones in state-run schools shortly as "cell phones are a distraction for students."

"Students should concentrate on their studies and not waste time on what accessories to take to school," the minister said.
The minister said even teachers would not be allowed to use mobile phones on school campuses.
Secretary for School Education J M Phatak, however, feels the ban would be more effective if imposed in upmarket schools rather than state-run schools. "Not many students in government schools can afford a mobile. Such rules should be implemented in schools where students can afford such expensive gadgets."
Private schools in Mumbai have also welcomed the move.
