Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan on Wednesday said the proliferation of faith channels is a threat to national integration.
He said watching preachers and lecturers on these channels triggered fears about religious peace in a multicultural society like India.
"They are very dangerous. Comments on these channels carry the potential to spark religious unrest," Khan said. "These channels are a threat to national unity."
Khan, who chooses art over spirituality, said he is surprised to see that there are no censor restrictions on religious TV stations.
He added that he does not believe that these channels bring spirituality direct to living rooms.
"They are capable of doing more harm than good. Speaker after speaker, for instance, pray for the well being of the followers of their own community live on these stations. Why should they not pray for the entire humanity?"
