Members of a Tamil non-government organisation working in Sri Lanka have held a daylong vigil at a shopping mall in Melbourne to thank Australians for their generous contributions for relief work after last-year's Tsunami.
Members of the Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation on Monday held the vigil at the Bourke Street Mall in Melbourne, inviting passers-by to light a candle and view a photo exhibition of the devastation caused by the December 26 disaster, as also the relief efforts, The Age daily reported.
At 1330 local time, the group's national executive director Rajan Rasiah lit candles on a ceremonial lamp and led a minute's silence.
The group, a non-government relief organisation that does much of its work in northeast Sri Lanka largely controlled by the Tamil Tiger rebels, has also adopted the coastal village of Mullai, the daily said.
