Several Indian bachelors are among the thousands of workers here who fear that they would be left homeless following Sharjah municipality's decision to remove singles from family residential areas.
They are being offered places in areas where they cannot afford the high rents, news reports say.
The bachelors have been told that water and electricity supplies would be cut off if they do not move out of their single-storey row buildings that house five or more men at a cost of about 100 dirham each per month.
The accommodation they are offered are in industrial areas where the rents are as high as 1,000 dirham, more than the monthly income of most of them, they alleged.
The Sharjah Municipality has chalked out a time frame for the evacuation of all bachelors from residential areas, the reports said.
