The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the second straight day on Wednesday without transacting any business as a determined Opposition stalled proceedings demanding action against those indicted by the Nanavati Commission on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Slogan-shouting Opposition members, mostly belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Akali Dal, stormed the well demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

They shouted 'Hatyara Sarkar Nahin Chaligi', 'Manmohan Istifa Do' and 'PM House Mein Aao' (Down with the killer government, Manmohan Singh should resign and the Prime Minister should come to the House).

In the prevailing din, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat asked Ministers to lay papers marked in their names and adjourned the House for the day as the opposition members were unrelenting.

As soon as the House met for the day, BJP and Akali Dal members were on their feet raising the issue and demanded immediate discussion on the report.

The Chairman said since it could not be ascertained whether the Prime Minister would be available in the Rajya Sabha if it took up discussion immediately, he was adjourning the House for an hour.

BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said since Home Minister Shivraj Patil was present in the House for Question Hour, the discussion could start immediately and the Prime Minister could join later.

But, some Congress members objected saying it may not be possible to begin the discussion straightaway.

Similar scenes were witnessed in the House on Tuesday leading to its adjournment for the day.
