Gautam Goswami, a 1992 batch IAS officer, who was named by the Time magazine as a Young Asian Hero for his exemplary work in reaching help to flood victims in Bihar last year, is in trouble with the state government ordering a vigilance probe into alleged defalcation and diversion of funds meant for relief in Bihar.

Talking to reporters in Patna on Tuesday, Chief Secretary K A H Subramanian confirmed having ordered a vigilance probe into the allegations against Goswami and others saying the inquiry report was expected within a month.

If required, the vigilance department would register First Information Reports against officials against whom a case was prima facie made out, he said, adding the role of Goswami, a former Patna district magistrate, was under the scanner.

Subramanian said the state government had not yet accepted the resignation of Goswami from service and if needed
he would be called back for explaining his position and face the legal formalities.

Goswami resigned from state government service to join Sahara group as a vice-president shortly before the February assembly elections.
