The archbishop of the large diocese of Milan, tops the papabili (cardinals who could become the next Pope) list.

Cardinal Tettamanzi is a moderate with natural pastoral abilities and an easy style that appeals to the young.

But according to some critics, Tettamanzi, 71, is not widely traveled and that he could impose too strong an Italian outlook.
