The Bihar government on Thursday handed over to a Special Task Force the investigations into the abduction of two engineers of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.

NHPC General Manager (Projects) T Mandal and Chief Engineer K K Singh were abducted from near Sarai in Vaisali district last Friday.

STF chief V K Singh confirmed the development to rediff.com. He said it is a big challenge for the STF. "It is not just a case of abduction or a criminal case. It is a big case connected with the development of the state," Singh said.

"If we fail, it will affect the state's development and no central agency official will prefer to work in Bihar," he said.

There has been tremendous pressure on the state government to get the engineers released. The abductors have demanded Rs 5 crore as ransom for the 'safe release' of each of the two officials.
