Exuding confidence that her husband would do a "good job" as prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh's wife Gursharan Kaur said she had full faith in his abilities to solve the problems facing the country.

"Mujhe poora yakin hai ki woh zor laga ke har samasya ka hal karenge (I have full confidence that he will do his best to solve every problem)," she said in an interaction with newspersons in New Delhi today.

She said her husband had always worried about the country.

Asked whether they would lose out on privacy now that her husband was soon to become prime minister, she said, "There will be some impact on our freedom, but there has been nothing so far."

Sitting alongside her mother, their eldest daughter Upinder says the family is very proud of her father.

"I have full confidence that whatever he does, he will do a good job," she said.

"He is a very balanced person and will be able to combine the role of prime minister and father," she added.

Upinder teaches history at St Stephen's College, Delhi.

Her younger sister Daman is a rural management consultant while the Singhs' youngest daughter Amrit is an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union in New York.

Gursharan Kaur, a graduate who decided to become a housewife, hoped the price of cooking gas would not go up.
