Shenzhen, the economically booming South China city, has the maximum number of homosexuals in the country, a report in China Daily said on Thursday.
Shenzhen was the first Chinese city to carry out the opening up policy in the late 1970s.
The city with a booming economy bordering Hong Kong is now estimated to have about 100,000 homosexuals.
Concerned the city government has decided upon setting up of China's first homosexual special outpatient department this year, the report added.
It is aimed towards the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS, said Cheng Jinquan, president of Shenzhen Municipal Hospital for Epidemic Diseases.
Senior medical experts and doctors from outside, especially from Britain, will be invited to work in the outpatient department, Cheng said.
