However, with fresh rains reported in the last 24 hours from Morigaon, Kamrup, Cachar and Karimganj districts, the government has called for strict vigil, official sources said in Guwahati.

Kushiara river in Karimganj, Kathakal in Cachar, Pagladia in Nalbari, Kopili in Nagaon and Morigaon and Dhansiri in upper Assam are still flowing above the red mark.

Road and rail communication remained disrupted in many parts of the state though limited traffic along National Highway 47, connecting lower and upper Assam, has been resumed with only light vehicles being allowed to ply.

The current wave of floods has damaged over 5 lakh houses and around 16 lakh people have taken shelter in the 1,650 relief camps opened by the state government, the sources said.
