Satisfied that British teenaged school girl Hannah Foster's suspected killer Maninder Pal Singh Kohli had been arrested by the West Bengal police, the victim's parents on Thursday hoped that his extradition process would be speeded up by the Indian authorities.

"We have heard the news this afternoon (about Kohli's arrest). At this stage we are trying to keep our emotions in check until formal confirmation about Kohli's arrest comes through...we now hope that it will be the first step to extradite him," Hannah's father Trevor Foster and mother Hillary Foster said addressing a news conference in Chandigarh this evening.

Trevor, who along with his wife had arrived in Chandigarh on Tuesday evening to make a public appeal for information which would help the police arrest Kohli, said they wanted to thank the Indian media and the Indian police due to whose untiring efforts Kohli had been traced.

"We want to thank the Indian media and the police for their support and all help they extended to us. It was an emotional roller-coster ride for Hillary and me...the publicity given by the media was instrumental for the Indian police to arrest him (Kohli)," Trevor said.

On Kohli's arrest, Alan Betts, Detective Superintendent of Hampshire Police, who was accompanying the British couple, said, "We hope this will be the first step to the extradtion process."

Kohli, prime suspect in the Hannah's rape and murder case in England, was arrested from Panitanki area of West Bengal's Darjeeling district while he was trying to flee to Nepal.
