December witnessed two major earthquakes measuring over 8.0 on the Richter Scale and Sunday's tremor off the west coast of Indonesia is the biggest so far of 2004.
According to US National Earthquake Information Centre, there were as many as 15 earthquakes measuring over 7.0 on the Richter Scale this year, including six in Indonesia alone, and three in Japan.
