Parliament mourns Narasimha Rao

Both Houses of Parliament were on Thursday adjourned sine die following former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao's death.

A two-minute silence was observed in his memory and the Houses, which were on their last day of the winter session, adjourned sine die as a mark of respect.

Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha, Pranab Mukherjee, broke the news to the House. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee described Rao as an "outstanding statesman".

In the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Parliament Affairs Suresh Pachauri informed members of the demise after which Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat recalled the former PM's services to the nation.
