Army chief arrives in Shanghai

General N C Vij on Wednesday became the first chief of army staff in ten years to arrive in China for an official visit.

The general arrived in Shanghai, kicking off a weeklong visit aimed at enhancing trust and cooperation with the Chinese military.

During his stay in Shanghai, the Communist country's largest city and commercial hub, Gen Vij will exchange views with leaders of the Shanghai Military Garrison.

The Shanghai Military Garrison will also host a banquet in his honour.

He will also visit the eastern port city of Qingdao and the south-western city of Xian and visit local garrisons before proceeding to Beijing for talks with the People's Liberation Army.

In Beijing, Gen Vij will also call on a senior Chinese government leader.
