Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Sunday said his government will continue to work for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the state.

Rio said the law and order situation in the state has improved considerably because of the ceasefire agreement between the Union government and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (I-M).

The agreement was renewed for a year just last month.

Rio was addressing a gathering on the occasion of Independence Day.

There have been violent protests in Manipur past one month demanding abolition of AFSPA.
