A police team is in Pratapgarh to probe alleged atrocities and irregularities committed against independent legislator Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and his family during the tenure of District Magistrate Mohammad Mustafa.
The six-member Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department led by Additional Superintendent of Police Dalbir Singh Yadav met District Magistrate R S Verma to collect 'relevant documents', official sources said.
The team would also probe the confiscation of his ancestral property and acquisition of the Benti Lake owned by the legislator, the sources added.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had ordered the withdrawal of charges under Prevention of Terrorism Act against Raja Bhaiyya, his father Udai Pratap Singh and an associate Akhilesh Pratap Singh after taking over the reins of power.
Former chief minister Mayawati had levelled POTA charges against Raja Bhaiya and his family.
The Supreme Court had on Friday issued notice to Uttar Pradesh government on a petition challenging steps taken by the state to withdraw POTA charges against the three.
