Tight security in Maharashtra on 9/11 anniversary

Security all over Maharashtra has been tightened and a special vigil is being maintained at all crowded places and vital installations on the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States on Thursday, the Mumbai police said.

"We have beefed up security at all vital installations and people have been alerted and warned to pay attention to any suspicious person or activity," Joint Commissioner, Law and Order, Ahmad Javed, said.

Random checks are being carried out at all exit and entry points into the state and Mumbai.

Buildings housing key commercial establishments have also issued strict instructions regarding parking of vehicles.

Random checks are being carried out at all railway stations and passenger trains.

Earlier this week, police officials held meetings with businessmen, students and people from various walks of life to alert them of terrorist designs and to ensure their cooperation in maintaining a high degree of security.
