Lyngdoh, who retires in February, credited the award to the Election Commission. In one of the very first interviews he gave after the awards were announced, he told rediff.com, 'This [the election commission] is one of the best institutions in the country. All you have to do is to maintain it... It is not like most other institutions, which have to be built up from the ground level. It is already at a high level.'
