Blanco and Jindal have slung a considerable amount of mud at each other despite sharing similar views on social issues.

Jindal has taken a strong anti-abortion stand. He believes abortion is not the answer even when a child is conceived through rape or incest. He did, however, make one concession. In a debate, he said: "There are rare situations when the mother's life and the child's life are both in danger. My church teaches and my faith teaches that there are procedures that can be done which will result in the saving of the mother's life, even though resulting indirectly in the regrettable loss of the child's life."
