The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to order a judicial inquiry into the Marad incident, which left nine people dead near Kozhikode last Friday.
Chief Minister A K Antony said this during his cabinet briefing to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
Reiterating that the government was firm on bringing all those involved in the attack to trial, Antony said the ongoing crime branch investigation in the case would be expedited and the high court approached for setting up a fast-track court to try the case.
The chief minister, however, took exception of the Indian Union Muslim League, a partner in the UDF, being dragged into the Marad incident. The track record of the League in Kerala was such that it always stood for communal amity, he said.
"The government would not allow any one involved in the Marad massacre to go scot free. Nor would we interfere in the investigation on behalf of any persons involved, whichever party or section they belonged," he said.
