Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Singh Shaktawat on Monday appeared to be in trouble after a Jaipur court directed the police to register an First Information Report against him in connection with the death of his domestic servant.

The court order comes even as the state government announced a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry into the death of Badan Lal Rawat whose body was found on a railway track on May 22.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramesh Chandra Sharma ordered the police to register an FIR against the minister on a complaint by Rawat's father and brother who alleged that he was murdered.

Rawat's brother Roop Lal Rawat alleged in his complaint in the court that the local police was asking the family members to keep their mouths shut and also not to register any FIR.

He alleged that there was a hole on both sides of the head of the deceased, which might have been caused by a bullet, but the police had been insisting that it was a case of suicide by jumping in front of a running train.

Rawat's body twice underwent a post-mortem in the wake of opposition parties alleging foul play.

Denying involvement in the incident, Shaktawat said, "It is a political conspiracy of the Bharatiya Janata Party to tarnish my image in view of the assembly elections (due in November)."
