Arunachal Pradesh Governor V C Pande on Tuesday night asked Chief Minister Mukut Mithi to prove his majority at a special session of the state assembly on August 2.
Since the chief minister was reluctant to submit his resignation and insisted on summoning the assembly, the governor has taken the decision accordingly for a trial of strength on the floor of the house, Raj Bhavan sources told PTI.
Earlier, Mithi, along with AICC observers Oscar Fernandes and Major Dalbir Singh, had a meeting with Pande in the evening, the sources said.
The governor's order for a trial of strength on the floor of the assembly came a day former chief minister Gegong Apang paraded 41 MLAs, most of whom broke from ruling Congress and formed the United Democratic Front under his leadership, before Pande to back his claim to form a new ministry.
The Mithi government was reduced to a minority following the split in Congress Legislature Party with the rebels quitting ranks and forming new outfit Congress (D) on Sunday.
