Four police personnel, who were escorting Ghatkopar blast accused Khwaja Yunus Sayeed when he escaped from their custody, have been suspended
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, in a cabinet meeting, said, "A high-level probe into the accident, headed by Additional Commissioner of Police Kamble, has been instituted to check the veracity of police claims about the accident and to dispel doubts on the escape of Sayeed."
Bhujbal added, "If they are found not guilty, then they would be reinstated later."
Ahmednagar police superintendent, under whose jurisdiction the alleged mishap occurred, is also conducting a separate inquiry into the matter, Bhujbal added.
Sayeed, who had been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorist activities act, escaped from police custody on January 7 after the police jeep in which he was being taken to Aurangabad for further inquiry, overturned on the Ahmednagar-Pune highway, near Jategaon in Parner taluka.
The four police personnel escorting him were injured in the mishap.
