Tell us your dreams for India

August 23, 2003

'I hope our multicultural society never changes'

I came to Bombay looking for a job. There are no jobs in my village. I dream of an India where the youth will get jobs in their villages so they don't need to leave for big cities.

My dream is to become a nurse and serve people. But first I want to earn enough to educate my younger brothers so they can get decent jobs.

There is so much corruption all around. The dowry system is one of the worst things about India. I wish there would be more respect for women in my country.

I like our multicultural society. So many different cultures, languages and religions survive together. I hope that never changes.

As told to Seema Pant
