August 21, 2003 'In 5 years time I will lead my men' I hail from Ghanari village in Una district in Himachal Pradesh and am the son of a retired subedar, Darshan Singh Dadhwal. The only way I could fulfil my father's dream was to become a commissioned officer in the armed forces. The India of my dreams is a nation with supremacy in military power, economic prosperity and technology. My nation must be supreme in political and social aspects. I want India to be a country that all others look to for their betterment. India needs to check her population growth. In my opinion, this is the root cause of unemployment, which further gives rise to brain drain from our country. It pains me to see other countries use our intellectual resources for their progress. What I like about India is its diversified cultural heritage. India is a nation inhabited by different peoples bound by the spirit of understanding. I want the peoples of different religions to work together for the advancement of the nation. I have plans to join the infantry. Here I lead the cadets and in the next five years I see myself leading my men. And they shall have the same faith that the cadets have in me now. I want to live up to the National Defence Academy motto of 'Service Before Self' and do all things to bring pride to the Academy, my parents, my village and of course, my country.
Academic Cadet Adjutant Suresh Singh Dadhwal is the winner of the prestigious 'NDA Cross Country' held recently on August 3, 2003.
