The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam on Monday said it had suspended peace talks with the Sri Lankan government.
In a letter to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the LTTE said it was committed to a negotiated settlement to the two-decade-old war, but demanded that progress be made on the ground before proceeding.
"Expressing deep displeasure over certain critical issues relating to the ongoing peace process, the LTTE leadership on Monday informed the Sri Lankan government it had decided to suspend its participation in the negotiations for the time being," an LTTE statement said.
