Cauvery river protection panel
welcomes SC order

Sadananda R in Chamarajanagar

The president of the Cauvery River Protection Committee, Made Gowda, on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court's direction to the Cauvery Monitoring Committee to visit dams in Tamil Nadu and report the findings to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee by October 3.

"It is a good decision. We expect some justice now," he told rediff.com

"Though we welcome Supreme Court's direction, we will continue our agitation. We will not stop till we get justice. We want to continue our protest marches till October 4," he added.

Gowda also expressed satisfaction over Union Water Resources Minister Arjun Sethi's statement that Karnataka had no water in its reservoirs. "If we had water we would not like to retain it and deny Tamil Nadu farmers their bread," he said.

He said things could be solved if Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa approached the Karnataka government in a proper way.
