NDA allies, RJD support call for Bihar bandh

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Rashtriya Janata Dal and members of the National Democratic Alliance have supported the October 1 Bihar bandh called by the Left parties to protest against the closure of the Hindustan Fertilisers Corporation factory in Barauni district.

Half-a-dozen members of Parliament, belonging to the Samata Party, Janata Dal-United and the RJD, have also threatened that all MPs from Bihar would disrupt Parliament proceedings till the Centre rolls back its decision.

Devendra Yadav, a JD-U MP, said, "Neither the NDA MPs nor the state government was taken into confidence regarding the closure of the factory."

Samata Party MP Arun Kumar said as many as nine committees had recommended the revival of the factory and the Purohit Committee had pleaded for a Rs 96 crore revival package.

"If it was accepted by the Government of India, the factory could have been revived," he said.
