Student killed in road accident, violent protests in Srinagar

A Central Reserve Police Force vehicle allegedly hit a scooter at Haft Chinar in Srinagar on Saturday, killing one student on the spot and injuring two others, and sparking violent demonstrations in the area.

The student was identified as Muzammil Ahmed Sofi. The residents, who accused the CRPF personnel of reckless driving, forced the closure of the road and pelted stones at approaching vehicles.

Traffic was diverted through other parts of the city, leading to traffic jams at Batmaloo, Gogjibagh, Rambagh, Hyderpora, and the Srinagar-Baramulla bypass road.
