Letter reveals Tehreek-e-Kasas behind attack; Advani blames 'neighbouring nation'

Josy Joseph in Gandhinagar

A thus far unknown group Tehreek-e-Kasas is believed to be behind Tuesday evening's terrorist attack on the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar.

This was revealed by a letter found on the body of one of the terrorists killed by security forces on Wednesday morning.

The letter, written in Urdu, claimed that the attack was in retaliation to the killings that followed the Godhra carnage.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister blamed 'a neighbouring nation' for the attack.

"Leaders of our enemy nation have been unnecessarily referring to Gujarat for some time. Even in a recent speech in the United Nations, a reference was made. I presume that these militants got the hint from there," he said.

"If not for the strong and prompt action by the security forces, the terrorists would have taken people hostage in the temple," he said.

"The militants were failing in J&K and, hence, were looking for a soft target like the Akshardham temple. The world needs to understand that this form of terrorism is an attack on our democracy," he said referring to the attacks on the Srinagar state assembly, on Parliament, in Kaluchak (near Jammu).
