CBI team leaves for Lisbon

A Central Bureau of Investigation team has left for Lisbon to seek the deportation of gangster Abu Salem.

The two-member team comprising CBI Additional Director Bijay Shankar and Superintendent of Police O P Chatwal left on Tuesday evening with some documents that are expected to help convince the Portuguese authorities about Salem's involvement in the 1993 Bombay blasts.

CBI Director P C Sharma, confirming the team's departure, told reporters that one more official would soon join the team in Lisbon to negotiate Salem's deportation.

The team is likely to be in Lisbon for about a week.
