Narendra Modi should have gently criticised minorities: VHP

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad said on Tuesday that it did not approve of the manner in which Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had criticised the minority community.

"Content is right, but the manner should have been more gentle," VHP central secretary and spokesman Veereshwar Dwivedi said when asked to comment on Modi's remarks that the minorities did not practise family planning.

When asked about the Bharatiya Janata Party's lukewarm response to the Maharashtra government's plan to ban the VHP and Bajrang Dal, he said his organisation was not bothered about the stance of that party.

Dwivedi also played an audiocassette of a provocative speech purportedly delivered by terrorist Maulana Masood Azhar on January 5, 2000, in Karachi and Bhawalpur. He said the speech made it clear that the main inspiration behind terrorism was the 'jihadi mentality' of Islam.
