Gujarat Congress calls for bandh on Wednesday

The Gujarat Congress has called for a state-wide bandh on Wednesday to protest against the attack on the Akshardham temple in Gandhinagar.

In a joint statement in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Congress president Shankarsinh Vaghela and party leader Amarsinh Chaudhary expressed "deep grief" over the incident, in which 26 people were killed.

They said the incident exposes the hollow claims made by Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, who also represents Gandhinagar in the Lok Sabha, on efforts being made to prevent cross-border terrorism.

"The attack on Akshardham is an assault on the peace message of Lord Swaminarayan," they said.

"We also appeal to the people to observe the bandh in a peaceful and silent manner and pray for peace and tranquility in all places of worships in Gujarat," they added.
