Ex-serviceman, who sold AK-47
to Veerappan, arrested

Pandurangan, a native of Perambaloor and a suspected Tamil national extremist, had sold the weapon to Veera Pandiyan, a Tamil Liberation Movement activist, who later handed over the gun to Veerappan, police said.

He was produced before Sathyamangalam Judicial Magistrate A K Subramaniam and was remanded to 15 days judicial custody, they said, adding he has been lodged in the Coimbatore central prison.

A panther skin was also recovered from Pandurangan's house, police said.

Meanwhile, a Dravida Kazhagam leader, who runs a paint shop in Rameswaram, and his two associates were arrested for possessing huge quantities of drugs. The interrogation of Sigamani, Ganesh and Babu led the police to a local transporter, who was not identified, from whom a rocket-launcher and several AK-47 magazines were recovered.

The police believe that the launcher may have been meant for Veerappan.
