Bihar to spend Rs 1 billion to upgrade health centres

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Bihar government has decided to spend Rs 1 billion to upgrade infrastructure and provide modern equipment to health centres in the state.

The government took this decision in view of the poor facilities and lack of modern equipment in health centres across the state, a health official said.

Building Construction Minister Mohammed Taslimuddin said his ministry had made all possible efforts to repair and renovate hospital buildings based on the suggestions made by the health ministry.

He said that initially, the paucity of funds was a major hindrance, but the health department had later provided the required funds.

Taslimuddin said this project would be finished by financial year 2003-2004, and they would enlist the help of construction companies from other states, if required, to meet the target.
