Naidu effects minor Cabinet reshuffle

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Three new ministers were inducted into the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet while one minister of state was promoted to Cabinet rank in a minor reshuffle by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Senior legislator C Muthyam Reddy, two-term Member of the Legislative Assembly Nerella Anjaneyulu and Telugu film comedian-turned-politician Babu Mohan were sworn in by Governor C Rangarajan at a brief ceremony at the Raj Bhavan.

Minister of State for Technical Education Muddasani Damodar Reddy was also administered the oath of office and secrecy as Cabinet minister.

The strength of the Council of Ministers has now gone up to 39 with 31 ministers of Cabinet rank and eight ministers of state.

Incidentally, Anjaneyulu, who was on a study tour of five southeast Asian countries with a group of legislators, cut short his visit and rushed back from Malaysia for the swearing-in ceremony.

It is a maiden entry into the Cabinet for the new ministers, who hail from the Telangana region and fill up the vacancies caused by the death of Higher Education Minister Karnam Ramachandra Rao and the resignations of Labour Minister Suddala Devaiah and Panchayat Raj Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.

Babu Mohan, haling from coastal Andhra Pradesh, was elected to the state assembly from Andole reserved constituency in Medak district for two terms.

Muthyam Reddy represents Dommat in Medak district. Nerella Anjaneyulu, hailing from the backward classes, was elected from Yellareddy constituency in Nizamabad district. Damodar Reddy has been representing Kamalapur in Karimnagar district for four terms.
