Farooq's brother escapes militant attack

Jammu and Kashmir industries minister and brother of Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, on Monday escaped an attempt on his life when militants indiscriminately fired bullets on his motorcade at Khepora in Baramulla district, official sources said.

Kamaal, who is seeking re-election from Gulmarg assembly constituency, was fired at in Khepora soon after he addressed an election rally, the sources said.

Undeterred, Kamaal went to Hardushiva village to address an election rally. Kamaal is pitted against Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party leader and former minister Ghulam Hassan Mir.
