Mufti more concerned about militants: Panun Kashmir

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

The Panun Kashmir said on Thursday that Kashmiri Pandits had no hopes of returning to the valley because People's Democratic Party leader and chief minister-designate Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was more concerned about militants.

"Over four lakh Kashmiri Pandits were hounded out of Jammu and Kashmir by militants over a decade ago. But it did not bother the pseudo-secularists. Now the impending government in Srinagar is making a song and dance about its common minimum programme, which basically is a blueprint for the relief and rehabilitation of the militants," said Yubraj Raina, Panun Kashmir coordinator.

Human rights were an excuse for dominating the weak, he said.

"If we are forced to live like second class citizens in our own motherland and militants are treated like royalty, why should anybody blame us if we express our apprehension," he said.

When pointed out that the Mufti had spoken about the return and rehabilitation of Pandits, he said, "It is all for public consumption. He knows when he entertains militants, we will be cautious about returning to the state."

He referred to PDP vice-president Muzaffar Beig's comments that there will be no Pandit in the state Cabinet, because Panun Kashmir had boycotted the polls.

"Beig has unwittingly shown his party's mindset, which is geared against our community. No party gave a damn when we shouted from rooftops that over 35,000 voters were omitted from the electoral rolls. So when such a charade was going on, we were fully justified in boycotting the polls," he asserted.

Raina alleged, "It was Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in 1986 who triggered the riots in Anantnag against Kashmiri Pandits, which triggered our exodus from J&K."

"Crocodile tears are the worst form of political chicanery of these new rulers, who will shortly assume power in J&K. As for the Congress, it does not realise that it has handed the baton to the hands of militants," he said.
