Eighth phase of Gujarat Gaurav Yatra today

The eighth phase of the Gujarat Gaurav Yatra led by Chief Minister Narendra Modi will begin on Thursday from Karamsad in Kheda district.

Karamsad is the birthplace of Sardar Vallabhai Patel, the country's first home minister. Patel's birthday also falls today.

Bharatiya Janata Party state unit chief Suresh Gandhi said the yatra will 'mobile the youth force'. "There have been various target groups at places from where the yatra passed through. This time the party will mobilise the youth for December 12 polls," he said.

The yatra in Modi's mechanised chariot fitted with hydraulic lift would begin after a public meeting to be attended among others by BJP national general secretary Arun Jaitley.

The yatra, which has been mired in controversy following Modi's 'controversial' remarks on the minority community at Bahucharaji in north Gujarat, is also likely to come under the scrutiny of the Election Commission as the model code of conduct has already come into force.

The eighth phase of the yatra would pass through the temple town of Vadtal, Chaklasi, Mahudha, Mehemdabad, Kheda town and culminate at Sand late in the evening.
