Pakistan reacts angrily
to Blackwill's remarks

Pakistan on Wednesday reacted angrily to remarks by US Ambassador to India Robert D Blackwill that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir was 'entirely externally driven' and said it has taken up the issue with the Bush administration.

"As such, it would be better if the US ambassador in New Delhi desists from pronouncing himself on Pakistan-India issues" and instead focuses on US-India relations, the Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement in Islamabad.

Pakistan has taken up the issue of Ambassador Blackwill's remarks with US Ambassador in Islamabad Nancy Powell and the Pakistan embassy in Washington has been asked to take up the matter with US authorities, the statement said.

"The American ambassador in Islamabad is obtaining a transcript of Blackwill's speech," it added.

Referring to a similar protest lodged by Pakistan against Blackwill few months ago for confirming reports that infiltration of militants from Pakistan has increased ahead of the polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the statement said, "Even earlier, Ambassador Blackwill had made similar inaccurate assertions with a view to pleasing his Indian audience."
