Sorabjee's tenure as AG extended;
Salve wants break

The Centre has extended Soli J Sorabjee's tenure as attorney general, while Solicitor General Harish Salve has said he needs a "short break".

Sorabjee's tenure ends on Wednesday while Salve's term ends on November 3. Both have a three-year term.

Denying that he has resigned, Salve said on Tuesday: "I was asked by the government to continue. I still share a warm relation with the government. But due to personal reasons I will not be able to continue as solicitor general for a small period of time."

He said his decision has nothing to do with the Supreme Court's decision in the presidential reference on Gujarat. "I will be back after a short break," he added.
