Train services in Punjab hit
due to farmers' protest

Train services all over Punjab were on Tuesday hit as farmers blocked the tracks at various places demanding an increase in minimum support price for paddy to Rs 700 per quintal from Rs 560 and payment of dues pertaining to procurement of sugarcane last year.

Services on the Ferozepur-Fazalika, Ferozepur-Ludhiana, Ferozepur-Bhatinda, Verka-Dera Baba Nanak and Ferozepur-Jalandhar sections were affected and the Ferozepur division of the Northern Railway had to cancel some trains, railway sources said.

Farmers blocked rail traffic at Jagraon, Jalaabad, Talwandi, Moga, Jaito, Kapura, Kurali, Nagal, Fatehgarh Churiyan, Mannwala and Ropar stations, they added.

Among the trains delayed was the Shan-e-Punjab, which had to halt for at least two hours at a crossing level near Mannwala station, the sources said.
