Amartya Sen to quit Trinity for Harvard

World-renowned economist and Nobel laureate, Professor Amartya Sen, has decided to quit as Master of Trinity in Cambridge, London, and revert to his old post as Lamont University professor at Harvard in the United States.

"Six years is, I think, long enough [at Cambridge]. I have been very privileged to be master, and intend to continue being active as a member of the Trinity community," Professor Sen, who will take up his new post in January 2004, said in a London daily.

There was a long queue for his post at Cambridge after news of his resignation spread.

Prime Minister Tony Blair will choose Sen's successor.
