bribe in AP

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths have caught a junior civil judge at Vinukonda red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

ACB Director-General A K Mohanty said in a statement on Friday that the judge, G Satyavara Prasad, demanded money to cancel an interim injunction granted against the complainant.

In 1987 the ACB had caught a sessions judge accepting bribe.

In another case, ACB sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at Visakhapatnam, Nellore and Rajahmundry on Friday and unearthed assets worth Rs 6 million belonging to Deputy Director of Mines and Geology G Zechariah.

Among other things, Zechariah owned a five-storeyed building at Nellore, 1.15 acres of land, a car, three air-conditioners and two computers.

The ACB officials also found Rs 1.03 million in cash.

A case of disproportionate assets was booked against the accused.
