Karnataka farmers defer stir till October 28

Sadananda R in Chamarajanagar

The Cauvery River Protection Committee on Friday night decided to defer its proposed stir against Thursday's Supreme Court order to Karnataka to release 'some water' to Tamil Nadu till October 28.

The decision was taken after the Committee held a meeting in Mandya under the chairmanship of G Made Gowda.

It was followed by the lifting of blockades on the Mysore-Bangalore highway.

The district administration, though, has deployed additional forces as a precautionary measure.

The farmers, in the meantime, continued their vigil on the various Cauvery river basin reservoirs.

In Bangalore, the Cabinet colleagues of Chief Minister S M Krishna met informally and decided to 'stand behind the chief minister in this hour of crisis'.

Krishna is expected to arrive in Bangalore from Delhi on Saturday.
