FIR against Samata Party MLA for torturing dalit

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Bihar police has registered a case against Samata Party legislator Narendra Pandey and his relatives for torturing a dalit.

A police officer in Rohtas district said on Sunday that a first information report was lodged on Friday on the complaint of Dalit Ram, a resident of Gohi village under the Darihat police station.

Ram, in his FIR, alleged that on September 30, the MLA's brother came along with some others and forcibly took him to Pandey. He was assaulted with lathis and rifle butts for filing some cases against the family members of the legislator.

Ram said Pandey threatened him with dire consequences if he did not withdraw the cases.

He also alleged that he was not allowed to come out of the legislator's house for two days by Pandey's gun-toting henchmen and family members.

Somehow he reached the Dehri-on-Sone police station, but here too he was chased away by the officer in charge. Later, he was admitted to a hospital, where a police officer recorded his statement.

Pandey, who represents Piro in Bhojpur district, has allegedly been involved in many murders and robberies.
