Plot to eliminate Advani, Modi uncovered

The Gujarat police has uncovered a plot to assassinate Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia and prominent religious leaders.

The plan came to light after one Samir Khan, 30, owing allegiance to the Jaish-e-Mohammed, was apprehended on September 27 at the state bus terminal following a tip-off from intelligence agencies, the Joint Police Commissioner (Crime Branch), P P Pandey, said on Tuesday.

Following his interrogation, police teams were dispatched to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, he said.

Two persons each were arrested from Shajapur and Bhopal in MP. An owner of a mine and his accomplice were held in Kota, Rajasthan, he said.

All six were brought to Ahmedabad on Tuesday evening and the police was questioning them, he added.
