Ansal Plaza encounter 'witness' appears before policeHari Krishna, who had alleged the Ansal Plaza encounter was stage-managed, on Thursday appeared before the police as per a directive of the Delhi high court to record his statements.Krishna, who was accompanied by his counsel Surat Singh and wife Sushma, submitted a six-page written statement to Assistant Commissioner of Police, South District, Ranvir Singh detailing his version of the encounter, police sources said. The court on Wednesday had directed Krishna to appear before the police to record his statement after rejecting his plea for an independent inquiry into the Ansal Plaza shootout and quashing of police notice to him for recording his statement. In his statement, Krishna said that he and his wife reached the basement of the shopping mall at 1845 IST on the fateful day and "saw 25-30 bullets being showered on two unarmed persons who appeared to be staggering." He claimed that he and his wife thought it was inter-gang rivalry since men in plainclothes were firing the bullets. He claimed he heard people say an encounter had taken place and he had mentioned it cannot be an encounter as the firing was one-sided. "A local newspaper reporter heard it leading to the chain of events," the statement said.
