DNA test to resolve paternity dispute in Bihar

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

A Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid test is going to determine the paternity of a nine-year-old boy in Bihar.

The boy, Mohammad Hasnain alias Shankar Sahni, now lodged in a remand home in Muzaffarpur district, will have to wait for the DNA test report before being reunited with his biological parents.

A Hindu couple from a bordering village of Nepal and a Muslim couple from Begusarai district in Bihar have staked claim to the boy.

Mohammad, till recently, was employed as a servant with Nurul Ansari in Sitamarhi district.

Ansari informed the police after the two couples began pressuring him to hand the boy over to them.

Ansari claims that a man from Mushar community had brought the boy to him.

The disputing couples -- Gulam Rasool and Rasina Khatoon of Saharsa village in Begusarai and Ram Daresh Sahni and his wife Megha Devi of Sarlahi district of Nepal -- claim that Mohammad was lost in a fair about six years ago.

The Sitamarhi court, where the boy was produced a fortnight ago, ordered the DNA test.
